So grab your favorite energy drink and let's dive into the games that are going to dominate our lives (and our Steam libraries).
Platform: PS5
Release Date: October 2, 2025
Following up Ghost of Tsushima was never going to be easy, but shifting the action to 1603 Hokkaido with a new protagonist looks absolutely inspired. If Sucker Punch can capture even half the magic of Jin Sakai's story while giving us a fresh perspective on samurai honor and survival, we're in for something special. The reveal trailer alone gave us chills, and now we have a concrete date to mark on our calendars.
Platform: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC
Release Date: September 12, 2025
The loot-and-shoot franchise is back, and honestly, we couldn't be more pumped. After the mixed reception of some recent Borderlands entries, this feels like the series returning to its chaotic, humor-filled roots. More guns than you can shake a psycho at, more Claptrap shenanigans than your sanity can handle, and probably more hours of your life sacrificed to the loot grind. Worth it? Absolutely.
Platform: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC
Release Window: Summer 2025
Taking us back to 1900s Sicily, this prequel is ditching the cars and tommy guns for a more intimate, old-school crime story. The Mafia series has always been about atmospheric storytelling and brutal consequences, and going back to the organization's roots feels like the perfect way to revitalize the franchise. Plus, who doesn't want to experience the birth of organized crime with stunning modern graphics?
Platform: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Nintendo Switch
Release Date: February 28, 2025
Just when you think the Yakuza franchise couldn't possibly achieve anything wackier, they give us pirates. In Hawaii. With amnesia. Look, if you've played any Yakuza game, you know this somehow makes perfect sense. Expect the same incredible blend of heartfelt storytelling and absolutely bonkers side content that made us fall in love with the series in the first place.
Platform: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Nintendo Switch

Finally – Assassin's Creed in feudal Japan! After years of fan requests, we're getting dual protagonists in Naoe (a shinobi) and Yasuke (a legendary Black samurai). The promise of both stealth and open combat approaches in one of history's most fascinating periods has us incredibly excited. This could be the AC game that brings everyone back to the franchise.

Medieval Doom. That's it, that's the pitch, and honestly, we're sold. Trading the high-tech Mars facilities for castles and demons in what appears to be a prequel to the modern series, this looks like it's going to be gloriously, brutally awesome. 2025 is off to a great start, thanks to games like Doom: The Dark Ages already making waves.

The Monster Hunter series hit mainstream success with World, and Wilds looks like it's taking everything that worked and cranking it up to eleven. Bigger monsters, more dynamic environments, and hopefully fewer connection issues when you're trying to hunt with friends. If you thought you spent too much time crafting armor sets before, just wait.
Platform: PS5, Xbox Series X/S (PC later, because Rockstar loves to keep us waiting)
Release Date: May 26, 2026 (Moved from 2025)
We had to include this because it was supposed to be THE game of 2025. After more than a decade of waiting, we were finally going to return to Vice City with what promises to be the most ambitious open-world game ever created. The leaked footage alone broke the internet, and the hype levels were through the roof. Unfortunately, Rockstar announced the delay to May 26, 2026, which means we'll have to wait a bit longer for our Vice City adventure. But hey, at least we know it's really coming!
2025 is shaping up to be one of the biggest years in video game history, and looking at this lineup, it's hard to disagree. Between massive open-world adventures, beloved franchises returning to form, and some genuine surprises, our gaming calendars are about to get very, very full.
Based on the most recent information I found, Civilization VII was actually released on February 11, 2025, so it's already available to play! The other games I mentioned have the release dates and windows that were confirmed through my research, including Borderlands 4 coming in September and several others with specific timeframes.
